Social Justice Team I

This team formed in the Spring, 2005. We divided ourselves into three working groups: African Americans raised in a white cultural context: Josh, Liz, and Jacob; African Indians in Oklahoma: Sara, Ashley, and Laura; and Black farmers: Waymon. We traveled, interviewed, and transcribed the interviews. We then presented the information at the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy in Houston, Texas, in January, 2006. The title of the presentation was "Social Justice: Stories of Three African American Groups."

Sara Blakeslee co-presented with members of Team II at the Christian Association for Psychological Studies annual conference in King of Prussia, PA in March, 2007. The title of that presentation was "The Practices of Social Justice, Therapy, and Advocacy."

Another portion of this research was presented at the ACU lectureship in September, 2007 when Sara Blakeslee from this team co-presented with members of Team II and faculty members from Abilene and Lubbock on the topic "The Voice of God Speaks to Injustice: The Prophets, Jesus of Nazareth, and The Community of Faith."

This team will always be near and dear to my heart because this is where it all started. They were there with me at the beginning. Hopefully we'll have a picture of these good people up shortly.
